Cathleen Campbell

Cathleen Campbell was profiled on Shadow and Act’s “Black Women Filmmakers Speak” series. She directed several short films: Her comedy “OUTTA MY NAME” (an outsider’s sweet revenge tale) was televised and screened at several festivals, including the Reel Sisters Film Festival, the Manhattan Film Festival, the National Black Writers Conference and the Black Women in Comedy Festival. Her dramatic short — “Langston Hughes’ NO CRYSTAL STAIR”— streamed in the 2020 Black Harvest Film Festival and Uptown People’s Assembly, which was produced by Columbia University’s Wallach Art Gallery. “AM I BUGGIN’?” (about gentrification) streamed in the Reel Sisters Film Festival and the Latino Film Market Festival (2020). Two of her Black Lives Matter photographs were published in The Nation’s OppArt series this summer. She had her first solo exhibit — along with several group shows — in New York and Chicago in between 2014-2019. She’s a longtime Harlem resident, born and raised on the South Side of Chicago.
