My creative interests are primarily centered on lens-based representations of outsider identities, counterculture communities, and lifestyles that confound the expectations of mainstream cultural traditions. These stories, investigated vis-à-vis an understanding of the traditions and innovations of documentary fieldwork, are retold through experimental methods of visual storytelling and intended to highlight the human condition. I am a photographer, filmmaker and educator originally from North Carolina with an M.F.A. from Duke University in Experimental and Documentary Art, and a B.F.A. in Art Education from UNC-Greensboro. For the majority of the past two decades I have worked as a photo and video educator in both the United States and China. I am currently a documentary producer and director for the Southern Documentary Project, and an Instructional Assistant Professor at the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi.
