Kevin Maxwell

Kevin Maxwell is a Filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California, who holds a BA with highest honors in Film and Television Production from USC School of Cinematic Arts. Kevin is currently a masters student at Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism studying Communication Marketing and Business of Entertainment where he is also a recipient of the prestigious Topping Scholars Scholarship for first generation students. Before embarking on his journey as a filmmaker, Kevin worked as an officer for the federal government for 5 years where it was his duty to protect US citizens. He led upwards to 30 federal officers at a time while leading motorcades, conducting sting operations, homicide and terrorist investigations, conducting briefing/debriefings and acting as a liaison between Internal Affairs Officers, FBI agents, and other federal agents. Irrespective of his career, his passion for entertainment remained a central passion but one he was afraid to pursue. This was until 2013, where he received devastating news that his best-friend and officer was killed in the line of duty. This tragedy forced him to reevaluate his career and compelled him to resign and pursue higher education in film and television production. He enrolled into Santa Monica College and took film classes all while facing many hardships but persevered. In 2016, Kevin wrote and directed his first short film CORA which was co-executive produced by Anne Spielberg (Sister of Steven Spielberg) ,starring Latarsha Rose (Hunger Games), that championed the life of his grandmother; who surmounted the horrific woes of her domestically violent husband and her scarring encounters of racial injustices in the 1960’s deep south---went on to be screened in multiple film festivals around the globe; most notably, the 2016 Cannes Film Festival Emerging Filmmaker Showcase, made the prestigious student BAFTA (British Academy Awards) shortlist, won best film at Prague Independent Film Festival and Ojai Film Festival. Kevin wrote and directed another very personal film entitled 'A Beautiful Nightmare' -a true story based on the devastating experiences of his twin brothers declining mental health and his fathers urgent and passionate attempt to help. His brother would unfortunately pass away in February 2018 and this would compel Kevin to Write/Direct the film as an ode to his brothers life. It was during the COVID pandemic, where Kevin and his wonderful Editor, Composer and Sound Designers had the will and fortitude to revisit the story and successfully complete post in late May 2020. Additionally, Kevin and another film team just remotely completed a film entitled 'The Order' which he produced and served as post production supervisor on in late April 2020. Kevin is currently co-producing a short film called 'Leaving The Factory' from award winning film production program at Santa Monica College. He is also writing the feature length version of a film CORA. He plans on writing, directing and producing as much work as he can to continue to push the artistic envelope and tell stories with passion and heart.
